| Common Ground Caregiver Support Group |
 |
Common Ground meetings offer caregivers a place and time to meet, talk share, learn, and receive the support needed to take care of themselves so that, in turn, they can provide the best possible care for family member or friend. The group meets the first Tuesday of every month from 10:30 a.m.-noon at St. Luke’s Center for Counseling and Life Enrichment. Common Ground is a program in partnership with Interfaith CarePartners. Meetings are facilitated by a licensed professional and lay co-facilitator with experience in caregiving. Common Ground is open to the community at no charge. For more information, contact the Counseling Center (713-402-5046). |

From a Stephen Ministry care receiver:
"I contacted the church and requested a Stephen Minister. Asking for help was a major step for me and it was the beginning of God’s healing grace in my life. My Stephen Minister listened patiently as I poured out my pain and frustration. I knew I could trust her with my feelings. As she walked with me over a period of months, God healed my soul.”
From a Stephen Minister
“As a Stephen Minister, I can tell you that I've received 'seventy times seven' more than I have given. That is God's way. He is so generous when we turn our faces to Him. When we can bless others with our time, our energy, our compassion, God blesses us because we are in harmony with His purposes.”

If you have had any of these thoughts then please come to Mourning After Morning. The purpose of our work together will be to journey through the “valley” by offering information and opportunity to grow through your grief and loss.

| "Although our society seeks to shield us from the stark reality of death and loss, it is prevalent all about us in nature and in human life. When anything is so common, many of us assume that the reaction to the loss will be quick, painless and uncomplicated. In some rare instances it is, but in most it is not. Increasingly we are aware of the fact that unwise handling of the grief situation is causing personality injury in ways that had not been suspected. Mutual support in the grief journey is one way to insure that our grief decisions are made based on information and thought." - Todd Van Beck |
CanCare
CanCare is a wonderful cancer ministry that is supported by St. Luke's with many other Houston churches. It offers hope and support to those experiencing the day-to-day struggles of cancer. CanCare is a faith-based local organization that attempts to match a newly diagnosed cancer patient with a trained survivor who can share experiences, offer information, resources and encouragement but also supports the person in a prayerful manner. Participants talk to others who have survived the same type of cancer, diagnosis and treatment.
If you need this kind of support or wish to volunteer as a mentor, please contact CanCare at 713-461-0028 or go to the CanCare website.
