KIDS HOPE USA
KIDS HOPE USA is a national organization that recruits and provides mentors for “at-risk” elementary school students. St. Luke’s members are involved in two ways. First, our members volunteer to serve as Mentors to students at Briarmeadow Charter School (of Houston Independent School District). Mentors meet with their student for at least one hour per week during regular school hours. This one-to-one relationship improves academic skills and often provides the student with a meaningful, adult role model.
Second, some of our members serve as a Prayer Partners. A Prayer Partner commits to praying for an assigned mentor-child team, and typically prays for the child’s academic success and growth of the mentor-student relationship.
St. Luke’s KHUSA Director, Margaret Wheless helps mentors and students arrange their schedules in order to nurture the relationship. If you would like to participate in this ministry in any way, please contact Margaret at 713-402-5152.

Story of the Week
It was Sunday morning and Trevor, a fourth grader, wanted to go see Mr. Ron at his KIDS HOPE USA mentor's church. But he was afraid to go by himself. He had never visited this church; he had seldom visited any church.
"Mom, what will happen if I just show up at the church?" he asked.
Mom knew only one thing about the church; it attracted people like Mr. Ron, the man who was always-ALWAYS!-so faithful in loving her son. That's all she needed to know. "Trevor, they will welcome you with open arms!"
St. Luke’s trains and matches caring mentors with students in grades K-5 at Briarmeadow Charter School in HISD. Twenty-four at-risk students have already been referred by their teacher. If you can donate one hour a week to mentor one child, contact the KIDS HOPE USA office at 713-402-5152.
Our Mission: KIDS HOPE USA builds caring relationships…one child, one hour, one church, one school.
