We are called, as Christians, to live in community. It is nourishing to body, mind and spirit to stay connected to life and to our relationships with people of all ages. Even though circumstances change in our lives, the need for a caring community never changes. The activities and programs of Senior Adult Ministries are designed around the interaction of people, staying connected to the community we live in, and caring for one another.
Mainstreamers
Mainstreamer Day is a time set apart for spiritual enrichment, learning and fellowship. The day begins with two programs in the Church Parlor, one at 10:00 a.m. and the other at 11:00. Program topics are varied, and range from spiritual enrichment, community leadership, cultural or historical significance, medical and health care information or musical or theatrical performances.
At noon, we move into Fellowship Hall, which is decorated with a theme for the day, to enjoy a buffet-style luncheon and conversation around the tables. The only cost is a nominal charge for lunch, and reservations are requested. There is no charge or reservation necessary for the morning programs. For lunch reservations and more information, contact Marlys Barry at (713) 402-5008.
Trips and Travel
Day Trips
On the third Thursday of each month, our group gathers to travel to some historically or culturally significant place. Some trips are in the city, others are outside the city a short distance. The day always includes a stop for lunch. Travel is by Precinct Four bus or by chartered bus, which leaves from the St. Luke’s parking lot.
Costs vary, depending on the trip, but usually include all charges for the day, such as admissions, transportation, lunch and tips. Trips are open to all (you must be at least 50 to ride on Precinct buses) but reservations are required and are taken in the order received. Advance payment is appreciated. All participants are required to sign a St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Release and Hold Harmless agreement.
Extended Travel
Occasionally, longer trips are offered, sponsored by either St. Luke's or by the Fellowship of Older Adult Ministries of the Texas Conference.
Additional information about upcoming trips is available in our newsletter or contact contact Marlys Barry at (713) 402-5008. .
