Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee.

More people are living longer today. Research in aging suggests that attention to mental, physical and spiritual fitness can make the aging process less traumatic, and contribute to the ability to find meaningful and challenging ways to use our time in our later years. Educating ourselves about issues of concern to older adults is helpful in addressing the needs associated with aging. Those needs have to do with life maintenance issues, life enrichment and spiritual enrichment skills, coping with change, and celebrating life.

Bible Study

Senior Adult Ministries offers several short-term study opportunities each year. Classes generally meet during the day for an hour, are led by various volunteer teachers, and have a particular focus for study. Any charges for the class are for materials only.
There are also many Bible and Spiritual Formation study opportunities available at St. Luke’s through Adult Ministries.

Aging and Spirituality

Spirituality is a very important contributor to the total wellness and well-being of older adults. One role of spirituality in aging has to do with reclaiming the role of elder as one of honor. Another is to strengthen ones ability to transcend the limitations and losses of aging, give power to cope realistically with disability, suffering, and other problems. Senior Adult Ministries sponsors and supports periodic programs and retreats that speak to these concepts.

Retreats and Special Events

Both Senior Adult Ministries of St. Luke’s and the Fellowship of Older Adult Ministries of the Texas Conference of the Methodist Church sponsor events of interest to older adults. In the spring of each year, there is a Senior Adult Retreat at a nearby retreat center, as well as other periodic retreat opportunities. Other periodic events focus on healthful living and spiritual enrichment. Details are published well in advance of each event.
