Adult Sunday School Classes

Welcome! Sunday School is a great way for everyone - children , youth and adults - to grow in their faith and love of God and to learn the teachings of Jesus Christ. God sent His Son here to teach us how to love one another and grow; through hearing His word and by learning, living, leading, loving, serving, praying, playing and practicing........we call it "Learning for Life."

All Sunday School Classes are at 9:45 a.m. unless otherwise noted.

Classes are categorized by age groups, 20's and 30's; 30's and 40's, 40's plus, Senior Adults and All Ages.......then, finally, 11:00a.m. Classes.

20's and 30's
Compass	Compass Topic: Variety of traditional and non-traditional studies Room: A207 (Activities center, 2nd floor) Age Range: 20's-30's - couples A growing class for committed couples in their 20’s and 30’s which does a variety of studies, both traditional and non-traditional. 	Discovery Topic: Bible based interactive discussion Room: Church Offices Age Range: 20's - singles Discovery meets in the office of Rev. Linda Christians and is a small class for young adulst, mostly single. Rather than "lead" this class, Steve and Ruth McCurdy get things started with a handful of scriptures, and the discussion emerges from the group as the "still, small voice" stirs participants. It's always lively, always fun, and often moving -- to the point of tears. If you fit best in a small group format, discussion-based group, this is the class for you!
	Luminous Topic:Faith-In-Life Bible teachings Room: Fellowship Hall Age Range: 18 - early 30's -singles and couples Luminous meets immediately following the Encounter Contemporary Worship Service. Combining teaching by Rev. Taylor Meador Fuerst with discussion groups, this large-format class is for both Singles and Married couples. New Beginnings	New Beginnings Topic: Bible Studies, Marriage Enrichment, Personal Development Room: B-141 Age Range - late 20's - early 40's - couples, many with small children Martha Jamison teaches the class about 50% of the time, and then different members take turns teaching. There is always a discussion setting. Lessons rotate between traditional Bible studies, relationship/marriage enrichment studies, and personal development / life application studies. However, New Beginnings is not afraid to try new things -- last summer they subscribed to an on-line current events study called The Wired Word, which was pretty interesting! 30's and 40's
	Gateway Topic: Bible Study and Faith-in-Life Topics Room: R-24 Age Range: 30's and 40's - couples, many with small and school aged children For couples in their 30's and early 40's, many with young children, who enjoy Bible Study and Faith-in-Life topics.
	Horizons Topic: Bible Study and Faith-in-Life Topics Room: R-23 Age Range: 30's to early 50's - couples with children For couples in their mid-30's-early 50's, featuring relevant Faith-in-Life topics and Bible study. Led by class members and guest speakers. Service projects and social events with families and couples. For more information contact class presidents
	ONE Topic: Bible Based Study Room: R-25 Age Range: late 20's - 40's - single Primary teachers, Ken McKay and Pam Cummings, as well as guest ministers teach a variety of study in a lecture/discussion format. Our ultimate goal is to offer a friendly, safe environment, for young professionals who are seeking to find friends and grow in their faith. Topics range from Bible study to faith issues in daily living. ONE regularly participates in service actvities and sponsors social opportunities, such as our annual Beach Retreat to Galveston Island. 	Lamplighters Topic: Bible Based lessons Room: B-230 Age Range: 30's and 40's mostly couples, some are 1st time parents Lamplighters is comprised mostly of couples in their 30's and 40's, this class offers Bible-based lessons and discussion led by Gene Graham as well as regular service projects and fellowship opportunities. picture to be inserted	Damascus Road Community Topic: Bible Based Discussion Room: Hines Baker - East Age Range: All Ages, mostly 40's and 50's - singles and couples Damascus Road Community invites and welcomes people of all ages and life experiences to participate in insightful discussions of scripture. The class format is: 1) Reading the scripture, 2) Presentation of background information 3) Discussion of the relevance of the passage, 4) Discussion of how our understanding of this scripture may affect our lives. Everyone is encouraged to participate, as we learn from each other's insights and perceptions. Damascus Road is also a small group that supports one another, in prayer and actions. Need picture of Steve Teaching	Genesis Topic: Faith-in-Life, Bible and contemporary issues Room: R-21 Age Range: late 40's to early 60's, many are parents of teenage and young adult children This dynamic class consists mostly of couples aged 40 to 60 plus and is taught by Steve Lufborrow along with occasional guest teachers. Genesis class enjoys topics on Faith-In-Life, Bible, and contemporary issues presented in a lecture/discussion format. Good Will	Good Will Topic:Pratical Bible Study and Faith-in-Life topics Room: R-13 (Rotunda Theatre) Range: Mid 40's and up - Singles and Couples A large group, 40's and up, studying Bible and Faith-in-Life topics. Sponsors regular social and service events.
Harmony	Harmony Topic: Round Table Discussion/Contemporary Issues Room: C-198 (Chapel Parlor) Age Range: 50's plus - Singles and Couples For persons, 50's and up, who enjoy fellowship and lively discussion and whose topics include contemporary issues and spiritual growth.
Open Arms	Open Arms Topic: Practical, Interactive Bible Study Room: C-167a Age Range: All ages, but mostly 40 plus - Singles and Couples We are a friendly class, taught by excellent teachers, and we enjoy much discussion. Lead teacher, Joel Mohrman, prepares insightful series of topics that explore the Bible, its history and its relevance to our lives. The name of our class says it all: We're open to all ages, whether married or single, and open to all ideas, learning methods, service opportunities and fun. Randy Smith Bible Class	Randy Smith Bible Class Topic: Bible Based Lessons Room: B-145 (Parlor) Age Range: 40's plus, couples and singles For persons, 40's and up, in a caring atmosphere who enjoy an in-depth lecture around the Bible with some discussion.
	Sojourners Topic: Varioius Subjects more... Room: R-22 Age Range: 40 and up - Singles Are you looking for a place to connect with other singles 40+? Sojourners is a growing class for single adults, offering study on various Bible based and relevant contemporary topics lead by Phil Murray in a lecture/discussion format. We believe in strengthening our love and knowledge of God by learning, worshiping, praying and playing together. Please join us for Sunday School and afterwards, as we sit together in the 11am worship service. insert picture from Mo Ranch if one can be found	St Luke's Study Topic: Variety of Topics, lead by class members and guest speakers Room: C-263-264 Age Range: 45 plus, couples and single A large fellowship of couples and singles, 45 and up, centered around thought-provoking lessons presented each week by both class members and guest teachers on a wide variety of topics. Class members are active in church leadership and in numerous outreach and mission activities, and enjoy an active calendar of social activities such as monthly 'Games Night' parties, monthly second Sunday lunches together, and the annual Mo ranch retreat. 	Baker-Wesley Class Topic: Bible Study Room: Hines Baker - West Age Range: Senior Adults Senior Adults who enjoy fellowship and are inspired and challenged by Bible study.
987987987987987	Unity Topic: Bible Studies using Adult Bible Studies as a guide Room: B-151 Age Range: Senior Adults - 70's to 90+ Bill Davidson teaches the Bible and Bible related topics by regularly following the Adult Bible Studies series which is published quarterly by Cokesbury. The class consists of friendly older adults 70-90+ years old active in many aspects of service at St. Lukes. Contact: Bill Davidson

ALL AGES
insert picture here	Bible Discovery Topic: Room: Library Age Range: All Ages Bringing the Bible to life! That is what happens in Bible Discovery. The class is led by the exciting team of Jack and Fran Steele. Jack gives a history and explanation of the Bible reading. Fran divides the class into small groups to discuss these scriptures. We have a wonderful interaction discussing the study and finally, Jack tells how the scriptures relate to our everyday lives. insert musical note graphic Charles Wesley	Charles Wesley Topic: Scripture and Theology Room: Choir Room Age Range: All ages, mostly members involved in the choir program This class is designed for persons of all ages seeking a concentrated class. We meet from 9:50 a.m until 10:20a.m. in the Choir Room. Many of our members are in the Chancel Choir but others are always welcome. Topics studied are establishjed in consultation with the class and generally are in areas of Scripture and Theology. The class is not designed for people seeking social or service experience outside the choir program. Covenant	Covenant Topic: Room: C-262 Age Range:All Ages All ages exploring specific books of the Bible in a round table setting with discussion on the implications for every day life. Leader poses questions and allows each member to comment on their perspectives. This increases our understanding of the Word in our personal lives.
Friendship	Friendship Topic: Room: R-11 Age Range: All Ages All ages discussing the Bible and Faith-in-Life topics in a round-table setting, gathering frequently for social and service events.
	The Journey Topic: Practical & In-Depth Bible Study Room: Chapel Age Range: All Ages - family units, couples and singles. An adult and family class, crossing generations, offers an in-depth analysis Bible study which includes community, study, sharing, questions, life application and accountability. Contemporary Theology	Contemporary Theology Topic: Room: R-24 Age Range: All Ages For all adults who enjoy discussion of world religions and other issues of faith.
Joy Class	Joy Class Topic: Bible Lessons, Music and Prayer Room: B-141 Age Range: All Ages Jesus, Others, Yourself - is the focus of this class whose members are primarily residents of the Center Serving Persons with Mental Retardation or local group homes. Each member has their own unique abilities and talents. You would be surprised at what you can learn from them! The hour is filled with Bible lessons, music, and prayer. If you have a calling to work with special needs adults. These beautiful souls would love to have you join them. The only required qualification is a willingness to be a friend to the class members.
