We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. A PERSONAL PRAYER Gracious God, I get along with most people. You know that, God. I like most folks, and I try to treat people well, with love and care, most of the time. Or so I like to think. I think I “pursue the things that make for peace.” (Romans 14:19) But now a conflict has arisen, and I am not sure what to do about it. I have tried to just ignore it, manage my life around [...]

Life With Father

by: Wayne White“Casual agnostics” would be the way I remember my parents growing up. We did not go to church, matters of faith were not important or discussed, so baptism was something that never took place. My search for faith was a strange process. I knew I wanted a connection to God, but did not know the path. So I looked into Judaism, Buddhism, and Catholicism, all the while feeling this pull towards God. I was married in the Catholic Church, attended Mass and raised our daughter in that tradition, but as the pain of divorce and remarriage became [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. A PERSONAL PRAYER Amazing God, There have been times I haven’t lived my faith so well, but you were always there holding me up, loving me, inviting me to love you back. There were times I didn’t pray or read my Bible at all, and you still were there loving me. There have been times I have done things that were just plain wrong, hurtful to others, against everything I believe in. You were still there loving me. There are days [...]

Side by Side with Each Other: Inside-Out Habits with Dr. Tom Pace for September 18, 2016

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service.   A PERSONAL PRAYER God, I’m to preach this week on talking to our families about faith. That feels like asking Hakeem Olajuwon to talk about what it is like to be short. I don’t know how to do it. I don’t talk to my kids or my parents or even my wife about it very much. I preach it on Sundays, and give my whole heart to following you all the time, but it is hardest [...]

A Toolbox for the Real World

by Patrick Long-Quian This summer I was provided the opportunity to work at St. Luke’s as an intern in Communications and I was incredibly excited. I learned so much working at St. Luke’s and saw many of the things that go on behind the scenes. I came to appreciate everything the church does and how it does it even more than before I started my internship. Having attended St. Luke’s since third grade this place has nurtured me and spurred spiritual growth and maturity in me. When I was a little kid, I believed what they taught me [...]

Look Around You: Inside-Out Habits with Dr. Tom Pace for July 17, 2016

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. A PERSONAL PRAYER God of all that is wonderful and good and lovely and true, God who shows up in the midst of all of our darkness and pain, I walked through the rain forest last week with a guide who showed me a million wonderful things I would have missed on my own. I would have missed the marvelous leafcutter ants, who carry their tiny leaf cuttings into an ant colony underground, a village which [...]

How Far Can Your Dollar Go?

A single dollar doesn’t get you much today. You can’t even buy a cup of coffee or a gallon of gas with a buck. But when all our singles are combined, we have some buying power. During the month of June, St. Luke’s will revive one of our traditions and dedicate the $1 bills from the offering to benefit a community partner. “Good for a Guitar” is a 10-week summer program for 6-12 grade students attending the youth program at Wesley Community Center. In 2015, 16 students completed the inaugural program that teaches guitar fundamentals to students without access to affordable instruction. Research shows that there are many [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER God of Love, I am in awe of the shower of relationships you have sent my way. I am surrounded by an amazing family, a wonderful group of friends, teammates who share my passions, and a congregation of people who love and support me. I confess, O God, that even with all of these wonderful and amazing relationships, sometimes I seal myself off from the love of those folks you send my way. Sometimes, I [...]

Paying it Forward: Inside-Out Habits with Dr. Tom Pace for November 1, 2015

2017-03-28T14:58:23-05:00November 1st, 2015|All blogs, Inside-Out with Dr. Tom Pace|0 Comments

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service.   A PERSONAL PRAYER God, I am so grateful for those who gave and give themselves away in love to me. When I look back, my parents dragged me to church as a small child and must have planted a seed of faith in me. As a teenager, it was in the church family that I discovered real community, as so many people showed me what love looks like. Friends like Steve Warner and Mark Graham loved me joyously, [...]
