We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service.   WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER O God, Lots of people will stream through the doors of our church this weekend. They will come on Good Friday hungry for your love, poured on a cross, to be made real for them. They will come on Easter Sunday looking for new life, believing or wanting to believe the resurrection, and thirsty for the everlasting and abundant life you offer. I pray for each one of them today, God. For each man. For each [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER O Lord Jesus, That week is beginning, the week of your passion, the week of your greatest glory. I want to walk that week with you… I remember how you said to your disciples in the garden of Gethsemane on that Thursday night, “Could you not stay awake with me for even one hour?” I am sympathetic to their cause. I can’t even stay focused on you, much less go to the cross with [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service.   WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER God, I’m coming clean. Like the tax collector in the temple, I beat my breast and say “Lord, have mercy on me a sinner.” Oddly, one of my sins is that I am like the Pharisee in the temple, who says “thank God I am not like these other people…sinners.” Ok, I don’t actually use those words, but you know my attitude. Self-righteous. Better than the guy next to me. God, I can’t brush it under [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER Holy God, Today, I pray for your church. My prayers are of overflowing gratitude and thanksgiving. I love your church. She has been a nurturing mother to me since I was fourteen years old, and she nurtured my own mother and father before me, and my grandparents and great grandparents before them. She has been the love of friends, who have spoken the words of life to me. She has been church dinners [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER Holy Spirit, I need your guidance. I read the words of Scripture, and want to follow them and apply them to my life, but I know that they only have power to really guide me when they are enlivened by you. Sometimes, I hear your voice speaking to me… or at least I think it is your voice. I sense your nudges and promptings… or at least it feels to me like they are from [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER O Jesus, I pray to you today… Every morning I begin with an address to God my creator and parent, but I know that every time I pray, it is through you and in your name and character, Jesus. I imagine you, sitting there on the couch across from me, leaning forward, looking into my eyes and heart as I pray. I can see the weathering of the world on your cheeks, the burden [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in service and generosity. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER O Lord, my God… when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds Thy hands have made… Who am I that you are mindful of me? And yet, you have made me little lower than the angels. I can have a conversation with you, the maker of the universe, and share my whole heart with you. Wow. As I pray this morning, the figures of trees are beginning to take shape in the [...]

The Times Are Changing: Inside-Out Habits with Dr. Tom Pace for February 7, 2016

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service.   WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER Gracious God, You know, God, that I have always been one of those pushing for movement, for things to change. I have been one who was ready to lean forward. I used to walk around singing “The times, they are a changin…”.   But as I am older, I am less ready for change. I yearn for peace. Tranquility. Now, I find myself humming “Peace like a river.” I find myself more interested in quiet than I am in [...]

The Courage to Let Go: Inside-Out Habits with Dr. Tom Pace for January 31, 2016

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER God, When I look around me at the burdens so many people carry, I am sometimes overwhelmed. Their faces bear the marks of the journey. Furrowed brows. Stoic expressions. Flat eyes. Even counterfeit smiles. And when I think particularly about the people I love the most, my fear is magnified. I want to fix everything in their circumstance. I want to meddle in their lives. I want to make their decisions for them. I am so arrogant as [...]

When Deanna Wilson retired at 55, she and her husband Dick considered participating in Mainstreamers programs but thought they might be too young. Yet they kept seeing the St Luke’s bus at fun restaurants and reconsidered. “These people were so much older, and we didn’t really belong there, but we want to go to fun restaurants on the bus too!” And so began 21 years of fun with the senior adult program at St. Luke’s. They were indeed some of the youngest people onboard the bus, but sort of loved that! Mainstreamers programs provided them with excellent speakers and [...]
