We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. WE PRAY: A PERSONAL PRAYER God, When I look around me at the burdens so many people carry, I am sometimes overwhelmed. Their faces bear the marks of the journey. Furrowed brows. Stoic expressions. Flat eyes. Even counterfeit smiles. And when I think particularly about the people I love the most, my fear is magnified. I want to fix everything in their circumstance. I want to meddle in their lives. I want to make their decisions for them. I am so arrogant as [...]

When Deanna Wilson retired at 55, she and her husband Dick considered participating in Mainstreamers programs but thought they might be too young. Yet they kept seeing the St Luke’s bus at fun restaurants and reconsidered. “These people were so much older, and we didn’t really belong there, but we want to go to fun restaurants on the bus too!” And so began 21 years of fun with the senior adult program at St. Luke’s. They were indeed some of the youngest people onboard the bus, but sort of loved that! Mainstreamers programs provided them with excellent speakers and [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in service and generosity. A PERSONAL PRAYER God, I am so grateful for this day. I want to be mindful of the blessings and opportunities which shall come my way - •       people with whom I can share friendship and joy and even tears •       the chance to be about something that matters, to pull hard on the plough •       air to breathe and food to eat and safety to relax •       serendipitous moments of joy, when a stranger smiles or the sun breaks through [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in service and generosity. A PERSONAL PRAYER God of Peace, "Do not be anxious..." I hear you, God, but it is easier said than done. Sometimes, I know what makes me anxious. Will there be enough? Enough to pay the bills? Enough to do the things I feel you calling us to do? I have been so blessed over my lifetime, but there have been times in my life when too much of my energy was spent worrying about "enough." Forgive me [...]

Be Strong and Courageous: Inside-Out Habits with Dr. Tom Pace for January 10, 2016

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in service and generosity. A PERSONAL PRAYER God of power and strength, The book of Revelation says you sent your son as the Lion of Judah. Strong. Courageous. I know Jesus was fully human, and you can’t be fully human without being afraid now and then. He prayed in anguish in the garden, and the angel came and strengthened him. God, I confess I sometimes feel timid and weak and afraid. I avoid my fears rather than face them. The lion that [...]

We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in service and generosity. A PERSONAL PRAYER It is a new year, God. A brand new start. I stand in awe of your love that always gives a new beginning, the chance to start over with you with a clean slate. Forgiven. As far as the east is from the west, so far do you remove our transgressions from us. Thank you, God, and you know how much I want to live life for you. But God, you also know how much [...]
