And so you are no longer called outcasts and wanderers but citizens with God’s people, members of God’s holy family, and residents of His household.
–Ephesians 2:19
We Are Family!
At St. Luke’s Church, we love children and youth, and their parents! We view ourselves as one big family, “God’s holy family,” with everyone –single and married, young and old, with or without children at home – sharing in the responsibility to shape all our children with the love of Christ. We believe it is a very special part of our calling to draw young people to Jesus and help form in them a faith that sticks, a faith that will last a lifetime, a faith that is lived out in love.
No amount of parenting or church participation can guarantee that a child will grow as a follower of Jesus. However, we do believe we can help create lifelong faith in young people by…
Introducing young people to a real vital authentic grace-based relationship with Jesus, rather than a “be a good person and go to church” approach to the Christian faith.
Partnering with parents to equip them to be actively involved in teaching children and youth about Jesus, and modeling for them a vital faith, rather than an approach that delegates that responsibility to others at church.
Involving children and youth in an intergenerational community of believers, in which children and youth build relationships with many mentors and teachers other than their parents, who demonstrate the love of Jesus and make it real for young people in tangible ways.
Intentionally practicing our Five Inside-Out Habits as adults and with our young people. Together we: Pray, Study the Bible, Make friends, Tell our stories, and Give ourselves away in generosity and service.
When we baptize the children of our church family, we make a vow saying, “…We will surround these children with a community of love and forgiveness that they may grow in her service to others. We will pray for them that they may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life eternal.” We are committed to train up our children in the way they should go, so that when they are old, they shall not depart from it… (Proverbs 22:6) Come and join us!
