We pray. We study the Bible. We make friends. We tell our stories. We give ourselves away in generosity and service. A PERSONAL PRAYER O God, I pray for humility today. I am sad when I have friendships strained by our differing viewpoints—political, or religious, or cultural, or otherwise. My convictions matter deeply to me. I will stand by them. I think they are right. I think I am right. I am proud of those convictions, God—maybe too proud. Forgive me, God, for my arrogance and self-righteousness. Of Alabaster Cities

I voted early this year. It was an interesting experience, knowing that many of those in line with me were voting differently than I was. In contrast to what we see on the news, it was a very civil and friendly experience. There was nice conversation in the line about the Texans and the weather and the upcoming weekend. The people working the polling place were happy and very pleasant, both to the voters and to one another. The guy who gave me my “I Voted” sticker was absolutely jolly.
