A Prayer for Santa Fe
God of love no matter what,
No words, God, are adequate to give voice to the horror at yet another shooting in a school. Yet again, our hearts are broken by violence, by the loss of innocents and the loss of innocence. Sadly, we confess that too often we have grown numb to violence, viewing it as just part of what happens in an imperfect world. When those shootings happen in our back yard, to innocent young people and teachers, our compassion rises and we pause our lives to pay attention. We wish we could do something to ease the pain of those who suffer such loss. What we can do today join them some small way in their suffering. And we can pray.
We pray for the families of the victims. We pray for all the students of the school, and their families. We pray for the suspect, and his family. We pray for the whole community of Santa Fe.We thank you for the first responders, and pray for their protection. We thank you for the moments of love and courage that show up in the midst of this tragedy. And we pray for our world, that you might bring us real peace, and that we might be your instruments in making that peace real.
In the name of Jesus, the prince of compassion and peace, Amen
