The Lord, Shepherd and Host by Will Toney

Psalm 23 1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2     He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3     he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness [...]

Psalm 1 NRSV 1 Blessed is the one     who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take     or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,     and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,     which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—     whatever they do prospers. 4 Not so the wicked!     They are like chaff     that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will [...]

A Personal Prayer from Dr. Tom Pace

2020-03-20T14:37:59-05:00March 20th, 2020|All blogs, Inside-Out with Dr. Tom Pace|2 Comments

Dear God, This morning, in my study time, I read these words in your Scripture. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may overflow in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13) So that is what I am praying for today. I am praying for you to speak to the anxious places of my heart and fill me with hope and joy and peace that it overflows into every personal interaction I have with my close family, and every virtual or distance interaction I have [...]

Not Far From Home by Jim Roman

It's no secret to those close to me that I don't like to venture far from home when I don't have to. So when I made the move all by myself from suburban Moorestown, NJ to Houston, TX, it was a big deal. I had just finished graduate school and accepted a full-time position as organist and worship coordinator of a large, Houston-area church. Not long after moving here, my now-wife Grace and I got engaged and she moved to Houston to be with me. We got married a year later and things were going pretty well. However, just a [...]

Mission Trips By Bobbie Wisecup

I have been involved in the life of the church since May of 1959, most notably in our woodshop and as an outreach volunteer on mission trips. Starting in 1986 with a trip to Jamaica, I have been on 24 St. Luke’s sponsored mission trips in a variety of countries over almost 30 years. My professional training as a nurse was utilized during many of the trips, but I was called into service to do anything that needed doing like installing siding, carrying wheelbarrows of rocks and painting. One thing that was immediately apparent anywhere we traveled was that though [...]

Coronavirus, and more

2020-03-06T09:45:15-06:00March 6th, 2020|Inside-Out with Dr. Tom Pace|0 Comments

Dear St. Luke's Family, As cases of the coronavirus begin to be present in the Houston area, it is even more important that we all take precautions to ensure our health and safety. At St. Luke's, we take this situation very seriously, and we encourage you to follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and other public health leaders to take the following steps: Please stay home if you are feeling ill. Any sneezing and coughing will raise the concerns of others. Remember that in worship, there may be people who are of higher risk than you are. [...]
