In Times Like These… Messages from Rob Dulaney
Many of you may have heard that Remy Velarde died in a tragic accident this week while in Washington State. Remy was only 23 years old and was the oldest son of Tracy Velarde, our Student Ministry administrative staff. Remy grew up in and then worked in our ministry for over ten years altogether, sharing his love for Jesus and His faith in Christ with everyone he met. He was a bright, brilliant young man who was beloved by hundreds at St. Luke’s and various other communities in Texas and Arizona, where he went to college.
Here is a link to an article written by some of his college friends at Grand Canyon University, including a very touching tribute video that includes other statements people have shared about Remy in the last few days.
Many people have asked what they can do. Here are a few things currently in the works:
- There are initiatives for the Velardes (like meal trains) set up. Email me directly and I can share details about those. I think a critical thing we can do is simply be the church for one another. A loss like this reverberates throughout our church family. It is impossible to have known Remy or the Velardes and not feel a profound sadness for this tragic loss. These are times when we need each other more than ever. This can be challenging in an age of social distancing. However, I have been amazed at the beautiful ways this community has already rallied and supported one another during this difficult time..
I love you guys. Feel free to email me if you have any further questions or thoughts or if your student has any specific ministry needs.
